The Capacity Development of Vocational Training Centre (VTC) Kupang on Solar Energy Training project is a public private partnership project. The public sector is represented by the German Government (represented by GIZ) and the private sector is represented by PT. Schneider Indonesia. The benefit of this project will go to public benefit in Indonesia, in this case represented by VTC (Balai Latihan Kerja – BLK) Kupang which currently is operated under the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic Indonesia.
In a broader scope, the project aims to support the achievement of 23% renewable energy target by preparing skilful technicians and at the same time support the economic development of East Nusa Tenggara. In a narrower scope, the project aims to support BLK Kupang to be the centre of solar energy training in East Nusa Tenggara Province. As many people know, East Nusa Tenggara has the biggest solar energy potential in Indonesia.
The project is working in a close coordination with Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara particularly with the Office of Manpower Cooperative and Transmigration. GIZ as the implementing partner provides soft supports to the project while PT. Schneider Indonesia provides training equipment to be installed at BLK Kupang.
Different activities are implemented starting with job market survey to know more about the needs and the gaps to fill the market. This result will provide BLK Kupang a strong foundation to move forward and offering solar energy trainings to different stakeholders. Other activities also include training for trainers, installation of training equipment, different capacity building supports and implementation of regular solar energy training.
The project is targeting to have at least 180 trainees and 75 of them should be able to get a job in renewable energy projects by 2023.
